Archery Ranges in Alberta

Bowhunting country with a serious target program tucked inside it. Alberta archers chase elk in the fall and shoot 70-metre recurve in the spring, and a lot of them do both.

About Archery in Alberta

Alberta has 47 archery ranges in the directory, and the scene is two things at once. The Edmonton and Calgary metros run a dense, technically strong target program with Olympic recurve and compound clubs feeding national-level competition. Outside the cities, the foothills, prairie, and parkland fill up every fall with archers prepping for elk, deer, moose, and bear seasons. Archery Alberta sanctions the provincial calendar and runs the ASA Tour, the Alberta Winter Series, and Summer FITA events through the year. Lac la Biche has hosted the Canadian Outdoor 3D Archery Championships, putting Alberta on the national event map well outside the metro corridor. Alberta archery FAQ

When's the best time to start archery in Alberta?

September or early October. You catch the tail of outdoor season, the indoor leagues kick off through October and November, and you've got the full winter to develop form before outdoor opens up again in late April. Starting mid-summer also works, but most clubs run their structured beginner blocks in fall and winter, not July.
